Morocco: HM the King Congratulates Algerian President On National Day

I’m really glad that North Africans can get together and remember the brutal realities of French occupation, though in light of the past year its sort of embarrassing to watch a monarch pat a dictator on the back in an act of desperate cooperation.

Rabat — HM King Mohammed VI sent a congratulatory message to Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of his country’s independence.

HM the King expressed warm congratulations and heartfelt wishes for health and happiness to the president President and for further progress and prosperity to the friendly people of Algeria.

The Moroccan people share with the Algerian people feelings of pride on this glorious occasion and think back to the bortherly solidarity that united them in the struggle for freedom and independence given their common destiny, religion, language and history, the message said.

The Sovereign reasserted his firm resolve to pursue joint action together with Algerian president to reinforce cooepration, soldiairty-based relations between the two countries in order to raise them to the level of the long-standing and civilisational ties between the two countries, thereby serving the two brotherly peoples’ best interests and their aspirations for further progress and prosperity.

Moreover, HM the King reaffirmed keenness to puruse efforts and support all initiatives aimed at contributing to building the Maghreb Union on sound foundations marked by confidence, dialogue and good neigbourliness in such a way as to make it a driving force for comprehensive development, complementarity and integration between the five countries of the union.

The Monarch commends the effors made by president Bouteflika to fulfil the aspirations of the Algerian brotherly people for further progress and prosperity, in a climate of peace and stability.
