oumkhartoum: I don’t believe in this and am suspicious of people who say things like this. You can’t police or determine the ethnic, religious or ethno-religious identities of others. Whether they are racist or not does not negate the fact that they have every right to identify as a Jewish person, based on heritage, religious practice or both. This man is essentially trying to distance Zionists from being counted as Jews because he disagrees with their beliefs. I would go as far as to say you enter racist territory yourself by denying one’s identity. It is much more sensible to acknowledge that there are good, bad and people in between of every religion according to your perceptions of those traits and that only reflects on their character. I would agree with him and the people encouraging this post if the poster said “Zionism is not Judaism” because that would be a fact. Zionism is not a reflection of Judaism and every Jewish person and we need to remember that. I agree with the commentary above.  Also, I don’t find the frequently posted protest cameos of this select group of Haredim (Ultra Orthodox Jews) to be an especially effective or representative tactic. Of course not all Jewish people are Zionist, though this sets up a really weak and simplistic contrast between elements of Jewish society that may be effective to prove a simpler point, but does not accurately represent the range of sentiments among Jews of various religious and political orientations.
