but there is no such thing as a ‘muslim’ name most of these names that are considered ‘muslim’ are just arabic. I wish I had a somali name instead of an Arabic one [my female ancestors,100 years past, rarely had Arabic ones but Somali ones]
You’re right there isn’t. I think that whenever this idea is pushed its sort of a side effect of long-time Arabization. Its not to say that I dislike Arabic names, so much as I don’t agree that Arabic names are necessary or always make sense.
My great-grandparents were Amazigh but really Arabized ones. They made my great-uncle’s wife actually change her name to an Arabic one whenever she married him.
