Libertarians Finally Embrace Republican Ticket →

statehate:

When I discovered that this article wasn’t written by The Onion, I slit my own throat.

I know few actual libertarians that can stand Ayn Rand. Not only is there a distinction between beltway libertarians, Paulites and the rest, but there are huge distinctions in thought that a lot of conservatives overlook. To top that, I frankly find a lot of this speculation a product of a recent push by conservatives to associate themselves with libertarians and not the other way around. In an effort to disassociate themselves from beltway politicians, a lot of conservatives have just associated anything fiscally conservative with libertarianism.

I honestly don’t care for people who try to paint the right or left as “allies to libertarians.” That’s not the point. At all.

Also, a lot of the recent attention to libertarianism has a lot to do with conservative associations that have led to overuse and misuse of the term. No one talked about libertarians outside of the Internet on this scale for many years. That’s the purpose this article serves - its a game of association.
