Honestly, after reading and revisiting some short stories by Steinbeck over some coffee I realized that I don’t care for his writing style that much. I like the subjects and settings of his stories, but I’m just not a huge fan. I get the stark writing style, but whenever I want that I’d much rather go with Flannery O’Connor. Its sort of like Fitzgerald. I like his stories, but the color imagery is something that I can only handle so much of. They are good writers, I’ll never compare (nor do I have such aspirations) but perhaps I will enjoy them more at a later point. Its a matter of phases I suppose.
